The Cave

An uncertain silence fills this cave as I wander down its narrowing passage.
Illuminated by ancient drawings of knowledge I tuck myself away in a cove just off the mouth of its entrance.
I feel the hollowness between me and the wisdom on the walls and it matches my hollowness inside.
Who is that standing just outside the mouth of my cave?
I stand in the open area just inside the mouth of my cave and I peer out at her as the fire behind me throws a shadow over her.
The silence fills the hollowness now.
An intense gaze from large intriguing eyes.
Unsure of a path untraveled she investigates around the entrance.
He begs of her behind his smile and outreached hand to pluck him back out from the cave.
Is it simply a dream that he sees this and wishes such a hopeful existence?
